Military junta columns, heavily comprising new conscripts, advancing towards the Saw Wah Lay rocky mountain ridges above the Phalu-Waw Lay road in Myawaddy Township, Karen State, have been encircled and intercepted by Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces this August, resulting in hundreds of junta casualties.
Due to the intense battlefield situation, junta aircraft are continuously dropping bombs day and night on the mountain ridges, according to KNLA frontline sources.
“Fighting is breaking out across four main point locations. The advancing junta columns, mixed with new conscripts, have been broken and forced to retreat, suffering casualties in the hundreds. They attempted to advance towards Lay Kay, Kyun Hnit Pin, Ye Kone, and the Saw Wah mountain ridges, but we intercepted them. Unable to move forward, they called in airstrikes. They are dropping bombs at night, in the morning, and even during heavy rain,” a KNLA frontline source detailed.
Currently, beyond the relentless airstrikes, the Myawaddy-based Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 275 is providing heavy support by deploying kamikaze drone swarms, firing missiles, and shelling with heavy artillery. Furthermore, junta reinforcements are advancing jointly with pathfinder units led by Border Guard Force (BGF) Captain Mote Tho, according to KNLA allied forces stationed on the Min Let Pan-Phalu road.
Meanwhile, at the Waw Lay tactical command base, KNLA joint forces are launching close-quarters combat operations to capture the camp. In a desperate attempt to prevent the strategic base from falling, the military junta is relying heavily on continuous defensive airstrikes.
It is reported that the military junta is launching these daily offensives in southern Myawaddy with three main objectives: to recapture lost military bases, to clear territories and establish footholds near the Chinese cyber scam hubs at the border, and to deliver urgently needed reinforcements to the besieged Waw Lay tactical command base.
