An airstrike by the military junta on a village sheltering Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) near Mindat Township, Chin State, has killed 8 civilians including children and injured over 10 others, according to local residents.
On the evening of August 30, a junta aircraft dropped four explosives, believed to be 500-pound bombs, on the village where IDPs were taking refuge.
A local source told PRM that the deceased include a kindergarten child, a 9th-grade student, and several elderly individuals, while the injured consist of people from all age groups.
“Right now, we have only heard the initial news and don’t have full confirmation yet. We just know that the village is sheltering IDPs,” the source said.
He added that at least two houses were completely reduced to rubble. Further details are still being gathered, as efforts are hindered by severe communication blackouts in the area.
Chin human rights organizations note that there were no armed clashes occurring in the area at the time, highlighting that the military junta frequently and deliberately targets civilian settlements with airstrikes.
