A pre-birthday commemorative event for Myanmar’s public leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 81st birthday was held on June 14 at the Mae Tao Clinic in Mae Sot, located along the Thailand–Myanmar border. The clinic, led by Dr. Cynthia Maung, provides healthcare services to migrant Myanmar communities.
The event was organized collectively by members of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Mae Sot, elected representatives from the 2020 general election, political activists, civil society organizations, and advocates for migrant workers’ rights.
During the event, participants also engaged in charitable activities such as donating blood and providing nutritious meals to patients receiving treatment at the Mae Tao Clinic. These efforts were carried out as part of honoring Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s upcoming birthday.
Leading up to her birthday on June 19, Myanmar communities in Mae Sot are continuing various activities, including group cycling campaigns, youth football tournaments, and signature campaigns calling for her release. Additional blood donation drives are also planned at Mae Sot General Hospital.
