On July 29, a fire broke out in Maw Maung La Yan village, located in the Aye Mya Thar Yar village tract of Hpakant Township, Kachin State, destroying five houses.
The fire consumed a total of five structures, including two two-story houses and a cattle shed situated within a single compound, as well as adjacent homes.
“Due to the current conflict situation, no one is allowed to stay in the village yet. We don’t know the exact cause of the fire. It spread to all the neighboring houses. The situation was worse because the houses were completely unoccupied,” a resident of Thaung Cho village told Manau Voice , Kachin state local media outlet, is a part of PRM. The blaze was eventually brought under control in time after water trucks from the KNDBC company arrived at the scene to extinguish it.
“The fire was stopped before it could spread further because the company’s water trucks came to help. The homeowners have already been notified. The worst part is that residents are still restricted from entering the village due to ongoing military tensions and landmines,” explained a resident of Maw Maung La Yan village.
Previously, on May 20, military junta troops set fire to and destroyed civilian homes in Maw Wan Lay village, another area within Hpakant Township.
