Military junta troops advancing through Launglon Township in Tanintharyi Region have murdered four local civilians, according to local residents and revolutionary forces.
A military column conducting village-to-village raids in eastern Launglon shot and killed a 90 year old man in Kone Zayat village this morning. In a separate incident, they shot and killed a man and a woman in their 20s from Mae Maw village.
Additionally, in Waedi village, where the junta troops were previously stationed, the body of a mentally ill man was discovered after the soldiers departed, a frontline source told PRM.
“They have been marching through the area for a while now. The elderly man was killed when they entered his village. The two in their 20s are said to be a couple; it seems they encountered the military column on the road and were murdered. As for the mentally ill man, his body was found dumped in a latrine pit after the troops left the village,” the source explained.
All the victims were ordinary civilians, and the exact motives for the killings remain unknown.
The military column has been raiding villages in the area since the first week of September. While some residents managed to flee to safety, others were left behind in their homes.
Although the column has reportedly retreated from the immediate area, their exact current location is unknown, leaving local residents in a state of heightened anxiety.
“I think they are still around in the nearby villages. In this area, whenever their columns enter, it is their standard practice to arrest and kill anyone they see, so the people are absolutely terrified,” a resident of Launglon stated.
He further added that the junta troops also set fire to several houses and looted properties belonging to the civilians.
In recent days, armed clashes broke out between the military council and revolutionary allied forces near the currently raided villages. Following heavy casualties on the junta’s side, there is widespread speculation that these brutal killings are targeted retaliations against innocent civilians.
