Defence Force Seize Myit Chay Base; 14 Injured, Weapons Captured

11 June, 2026

People Defence allied forces attacked and captured the Myit Chay military base in Pakokku Township, Magway Region, on the morning of June 10, 2026, according to a statement from the People’s Defense Force (PDF).

The operation began at 4:00 a.m. and, after about an hour of fighting, the base was fully secured by 5:00 a.m. The PDF said two soldiers on the junta’s side were killed and 14 were wounded during the assault. Fighters also seized a range of weapons and ammunition from the base, including G-3 rifles, magazines, grenades, commando-style shotguns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Local administrators in Myit Chay welcomed the raid, saying residents had endured long fear and unrest under military control. One local leader described the capture as a major victory and said people — including children — had wanted action to end the constant threat they had lived with.

The attack comes amid broader violence in Pakokku district, where junta operations since early May reportedly burned more than 1,000 homes across dozens of villages. Nearly 20,000 civilians from some 37 villages were forced to flee, many of them losing all their possessions in the fires.

Displaced families are still sheltering in forests and hills, facing severe shortages of food, clean water, and basic supplies. Humanitarian assistance is urgently needed, according to local sources and relief groups.

During the Myit Chay operation one rebel fighter was wounded but is reported to be in stable condition. The PDF published an inventory of captured items, listing among others: G-3 rifles (18), G-3 magazines (27), 1 commando shotgun, 2 six-shot revolvers, 1 60 mm mortar (munitions unspecified), seven helmets, and 1,908 rounds of G-3 ammunition. \
